Hi guys

I got my new car pc a month ago and I can't use it properly as the GPS has no fix.

I already reseted the unit and even clear the almanac with no luck.

Any ideas about how to fix?

Otherwise I will need to return the unit.

Thanks

@diegogrunberg, your GPS is still in China. please don't forget to correct your location and then be super patient. First fix can take over 20 minutes, after initial fix picking up your location is much faster. A user report: "When I went back out after about 20 minutes it showed 23 satellites in view and 7 in use with a 3D fix and 5 meter accuracy". My rating: GPS is adequate and can be improved by optimizing reception strategy, developers are working on that.

Bye for now Fred

I did imagined that the almanac was out of date and the location was from a wrong part of the world.

The problem is how can I correct this.

The dongle is on the car for a month with no luck.

😪

@diegogrunberg, this is my attempt (which worked for me, your miles may vary):

- connect to a hotspot (Internet speeds up the process).

- Install and start "GPS Reset COM - GPS Repair". Pic 1 shows where you have to tap on the screen to start GPS TOOLS (your screen might have a slight problem with the resolution).

- Check if your CarPC has the best possible view of the sky and press the green button. Now start with waiting. First lock took me 159 seconds, in your case expect up to 20 minutes. Watch the number of satellites used (lower left screen).

You need to be super patient for the first lock, after that it will be much faster. Good luck.

Hi friends

I'm starting to think my unit has a hardware issue.

I have used the GPS tool to clear the data as instructed.

The first fix took around 30 minutes and that's understandable.

However and even after the first fix the problem returns.

Every time I start the car there is no fix on the GPS.

Takes around another 30 minutes for the fix and I usually arrived at my destination way before that.

As well if I select under config "use car gps" the navigation apps say there is no GPS connected.

Any suggestions?

If I can find a solution I will return the unit as unfit for the purpose.

Thanks

@diegogrunberg  don't know why, but your CarPC seems to think it's still in China. This is no hardware problem, just software or wrong interpretation (your current position was not saved).

The "use car GPS" can only work if your car is equipped with GPS and this signal is routed to the USB (both not very common), please don't expect this feature to work.

Well, sending CarPC back is one option, getting it to work is the second and using your phones GPS on CarPC the third (not elegant, but working). Good luck making the right decision.

I do think the GPS of my car doesn't route on the USB port.

I want to keep the device but I don't know what to do.

I now that the AGPS clear worked because it deleted all the satellite data and got 29 new ones on the map.

After that it took 3490 seconds for the first fix (almost 1 hour).

Immediately after the first fix it got 3d positioning and the normal gps tool (the one that comes with the device) also confirmed 3d position.

I was happy, turn off the car and on the following day there was no fix again.

Did the process again and once again it took another hour to get a fix.

Following day again no fix.

So no ideas how to proceed.

When you say use my phone gps with the car pc what do you mean? How can I do that?

Thanks

Instructions to use "external GPS" on CarPC

Download following programs from Playstore to your CarPC and your mobile phone and install them (other programs might work, these are tested programs). To be sure check their permissions:
- "Bluetooth GPS Output" V3 by Meowsbox to your mobile phone (it's worth the €1.19 for the pro version)
- "Open Settings" by DXldev to CarPC (freeware) if you can't reach Android setup on another way.
- "Bluetooth GPS" to CarPC (btgps 1.3.7.apk uploaded here for your convenience, download, unzip and install)

Start "Open Hidden Settings" on CarPC (open Android settings). Scroll down to System -> Advanced -> About Phone -> tap 7 times on Build number and a message will appear: You are a developer now. Return to System and open the new item "Developer Options" and then "Select mock location app" and click on the newly installed program Bluetooth GPS which will show. Next step is to connect CarPC to your mobile phone: Start "Open Hidden Settings" again and pair your phone using Bluetooth in "Connected devices". Maybe you have already done some of these steps, if so, check if the entries are correct.

Open "Bluetooth GPS Output" on your mobile and enable the service. Open "Bluetooth GPS" on your CarPC, choose your mobile, enable Mock Provider and tap Connect. Connection will be enabled and you'll see the data received (give it a little time to lock satellites). Note: Don't use the back button on your mobile or on CarPC! This will stop the programs. Use the round home button to go back to the launcher to start other programs.

Checking and optimizing your setup: Look onto the 2nd screen in "GPS Output" on your mobile. Clicking on the blue "+ button" you can add the widget "Fix/View". It shows the number of satellites (in my case for example 14/46). Now look at the status screen of "Bluetooth GPS" on your CarPC and compare the Fix/View (in my case 8/23). To correct this behavior change GNSS on the 3rd screen of "GPS Output" to GPS. Reading on CarPC changed to 14/46 too.

Please report problems (if any)

Bye for now Fred

Hi Fred

Thanks for your help regarding the no fix.

I end up using a less technical approach.

I bought a extension cable and moved the dongle to the top of the dashboard.

Less technical but effective and now problem fixed.

I would said that the internal antenna of the dongle is rubbish.

🙁

@diegogrunberg , I agree, the function is not "state of the art". Over the time it will improve - it will learn your position - and (hopefully) the developers will improve the capabilities by optimizing the program. Unfortunately this will take some time. Until then you can learn how to get the optimum out of what you got ;-). Good luck.

Bye for now  Fred

CarPC does not want to help me, he only sends me to the forum. Poor customer service in my opinion

I give up. I've been using CarPC Basic - 8-Core 4GB+64GB for almost a year now. So far I had a car with a GPS and I used the GPS of the car, somehow it worked. The problem was with the navigation. It crashed, the screen went black for several seconds while navigating. The biggest problem was with Google Maps. However, I tried not to make a problem counting on further system fixes. I knew that the GPS in AAdongle didn't work, but I downplayed the problem because I had GPS in the car.

However, the device is currently unusable. I now have a car without GPS and GPS in CarPC is not working. Pictures are attached. CarPC does not catch satellites after starting - It seems to see satellites (In View - sometimes 27 and sometimes 41) but IN USE 0. Sometimes I wait even 20 minutes and no changes. I have to do AGPS CLEAR & UPDATE every time I start CarPC. It helps that after a few minutes it shows IN USE 4-6 satellites (the "power" of satellites is approx. ONLY 8-13 maximum approx. 22 - according to the graph in the pictures) and shows GNSS Status 3D fix but the signal is very weak and navigation practically does not work. It freezes almost all the time, looking for a position, I turn and the map for the next 300 m goes in a different direction and then looks for my position for a long time.

As you can see in the picture, the device is pulled out on the dashboard of the car. So there should be no problem with "catching" the position and localization.

I will emphasize again. Without a working GPS, the device is useless to me. Each CLEAR&UPDATE and waiting a few minutes just to "catch" 4-5 satellites is pointless because it doesn't work at all.

For testing and checking, I used two programs, including one installed with your system.

@lm_ please check your time zone using Android setup (see pic). I suppose that it is still set to Korea. After that reset your GPS using "GPS Reset Com" by pressing the green button in the middle of the GPS Tools screen. First connect can take up to 30 minutes, next starts will be under 1 minute (see pic). Patience is very important ;-).

I have everything in these settings done right. I have the zone set correctly. As I wrote and showed in the pictures, resetting the GPS does not help. But I can't do anything now because I have an "ORANGE" light 🙁 Maybe my device is defective in general

@lm_ Don't think so. The hardware is bullet proof, the firmware needs some optimization. I'm sure your CarPC will work again.

Bye for now. Fred
